Gosset Lecture 2023

It is with great pleasure that the Irish Statistical Association announces that registration is now open for the Gosset Lecture, which takes place at 6:00pm on Thursday 26th October in the Royal Irish Academy, 19 Dawson Street, Dublin.

Registration for this lecture is required as places are limited. Register via the following Eventbrite link https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/gosset-lecture-tickets-725983324667. Note that a small registration fee of €10 will assist with covering some of the costs of the event.

We are delighted that the lecture will be given by Professor Sylvia Richardson, who is Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the MRC Biostatistics Unit at the University of Cambridge.  She has recently been President of the Royal Statistical Society for 2021-22.  She has made significant contributions to Bayesian learning methodology, particularly in MCMC methods and spatial statistics, and their application to epidemiology and gene expression.

Her lecture is titled ‘Are statisticians ready for the next pandemic?’, which will review the multi-facet engagement of statisticians in the Covid-19 pandemic based on the UK experience, how a shared statistical culture was used to engage and the challenges that were faced. She will then outline some of the statistical legacy from the pandemic and new directions.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Royal Irish Academy.
